OK, the cute doggies have nothing to do with this, they aren't even mine, but because of the way Blogspot uses your first photo as the premier photo of your blog post, I wanted it to be a cute one and not one of my "Before" pics ;)
So...here we go...
I was asked by HomeGoods to redo a part of my house with $100. I had a few ideas of what I wanted to do and where...but knew I really wouldn't know until I got to the store. And when I got there and looked around, I decided that it was my Half Bath that I was going to makeover....then the fun began!
Here is my Half Bath before:
Oak framed mirror and gaudy candlesticks that seemed like a good idea at the time!
A nice enough picture, but not really a standout in the crowd:
And a towel that sort of matches the tile on the floor...and a monogrammed nightlight:
And now for the After!
I love this new mirror! It's a nice warm, walnut tone with a chunkier molding than the oak frame and the detail is nice, too. It was only $39.99!
I do have one pet peeve though...why do they put the price stickers right on the mirrors? Does anyone know how I can get this off without scratching the mirror? Thanks!
The new candle and candle holder are so much prettier than the ones I had before. And the soap dispenser by Nicole Miller is nicer on the eyes than the Dollar Tree bottle of soap that was there before ;) I love the bling on the bottle of smelly sticks, too. What are those things called? I dug into the package so fast, I didn't even bother to read what it was ;)
I just love the crackled glass. I went for a more neutral candle color, too, than the striped ones that were there. Pretty!
If you must clean a bathroom (and we must)...at least it can be prettier...
I love this wastebasket, it's like jewelry! (Spoken like a true decorating dork, lol).
A dark brown wicker Kleenex cover...
I actually bought this picture in June from HomeGoods ($19.99!) because I loved it, but wasn't sure where to hang it...well, now I know! It's perfect and matches the floor tiles, too.
I borrowed this lamp from another part of my home. I do like the look, so I will be on the lookout for the perfect lamp for this spot soon. Need a GFI outlet, too...and since my husband is an Electrician, it will probably take MONTHS for him to do it ;)
And finally, I purchased this beautiful towel (that I won't let anyone use! lol). The colors are perfect and the tassels are a pretty touch!
I love the new look, it's so much prettier and gives the room a nice updated look. Notice that I mixed and matched colors, too and they work just fine together. Silvers, Dark wood, browns, coppers, creams, gold. You don't have to stick to one color to make a room work, even a small room like this.
How would you like to makeover a room in your home? Here's your chance! I am giving away a $100 gift card to HomeGoods!!! Here's how to enter:

1 – 200 of 664 Newer› Newest»Great job! I like the new mirror much better, and my favorite part of your makeover is the kleenex box cover :) I'm a sucker for wicker.
Goo Gone. Works like a pro but sometimes I have a hard time finding it. The bottled stuff works better than the wipes in my opinion but if the wipes are all you can find go with those.
My master bedroom. It's always the room that gets neglected and the last to get clean. I have an enormously high bed which could use some enormously high end tables...and then some decorations on those end tables.
Nice bathroom..very nice. I like the mix of colors it makes it much more interesting. Love the hand towel. I am a sucker for tassels.
For the sticky on the mirror try Goo Gone it's great for anything stuck on like that. I use it when removing my car tags for the next year too.
The office really needs an update. That is the room always on my mind when I think of changing something. I spend lots of time in the office and need it to be more fun and relaxing.
The trash can is so pretty - but if you are like me. don't throw trash in it.
To me, the best thing for getting the sticker gunk off is WD-40.
Your bath look great! Someone beat me to the tip, but Goo Gone is a wonderful product. I always spray tags on mirror, dishes and things like that with Goo Gone and let it sit for a minute and the tag just slides off. Then spray with Windex to clean. I have found it at Walmart and smaller bottles at the Dollar Tree. Start with the smaller bottle first because you really only need to spray a little bit to cover the tag.
Fran
It's beautiful! I bet you smile every time you walk past the door!
I concur with the Goo Gone. It's the best--and can be purchased at the Dollar Tree!
Should I win, I would work on my laundry room. It's a place I don't care to go and never really thought about decorating till I saw some of the ones around blogland. Right now, it's in the process of being redone and is half girly and half UT Volunteers (read orange and football!)
And I posted about the giveaway on my blog: http://thebeverlybuzz.blogspot.com/2009/10/homegoods-giveaway.html
If I twittered, I would do that, too, but alas, I don't. Yet anyway. Thanks for sharing!!
What a excellent job. The color is so warm and inviting. I wish I could visit your bathroom!
I love how your bathroom came out, you added so many nice little touches and it all adds up to a very pretty room. You've inspired me to go to HomeGoods and find some crackled glass to use somewhere...I love it!
For the sticker on the mirror...what works for me is using a bit of liquid dish detergent and one of those nylon dish scrubbers. Not the sponge-backed scrubber things, the old-fashioned little round donut or pillow of plastic mesh. (They usually come in a bag of 3 in the cleaning aisle at the grocery store.)
The dish soap helps loosen the sticker and the scrubber removes it. Just work at it gently and use plenty of the dish soap and it won't scratch. After you get it all off just rinse the area with a wet rag and then polish your mirror up nicely with Windex.
Love the bathroom redo! Nice colors! Warms up the room! Try alcohol on a paper towel to dissolve that sticker gunk!
frogz60@hotmail.com
Goo Gone, Is awesome to get the sticky stuff off and you can typically find it at the dollar store!!! (bonus!) It is great and gets rid of a ton!
conley0463@yahoo.com
I love the trash can, it is too pretty to be used for trash though!
I would like to redo the whole house! But I think my daughter's room needs a little update the most!
Hey Bella.... Great redo on your guest bathroom... Loved it all but really love the waste basket... ANd it would be Goo-Be-Gone found at Walmart or hardware store to remove sticky stuff without damaging the area... It is a household staple for me. Have a great day my friend!
(((HUGS)))
Donna
I like that you have added some warmer touches to this room- the darker tissue box, the waste basket, the lamp, the framed litho... That type of frou frou towels w/the fringe is meant only for looks- who would really attempt to use them? scratchy border, tassels, and all? LOL
I set out plainer ones on a shelf for everyday use.
If you don't want to purchase Goo Gone, just use anything acetone- nail polish remover, paint thinner, etc. Dab, let sit a minute, poof- the sticky film is gone. Then clean with your preferred glass cleaner. I'll post your great give-away. And if I won this thing I'd spend my $ on my kitchen. Can always use some decorative accessories...
:-) Sue
Love the changes you made to your bathroom, did you get all your items at HomeGoods? Love the wastepaper basket. It's sooo pretty.
I love that new mirror!
Goo Gone. It works wonders.
I would love to redo my laundry room, need some shelves and something bright to liven it up. It's off the kitchen and also goes to garage and backyard. :)
I would redo my bedroom. It functions, but it doesn't look pretty. I need some "jewelry" for it!
My favorite? I love the bling in the waste basket. Totally love it! I loved the way you mixed all the elements together. They blend so well together.
dmj53(at)hotmail(dot)com
Goo Gone is what I've used in the past, also I've used peanut butter, cause it's thicker and stays on the mirror, let it set and use a non scratch scrubber.
WD-40 works great for removing those sticky things. You probably already have some at the house.
dmj53(at)hotmail(dot)com
I'm hard put to decide on one room to spend the $100 on - I recently moved, and the entire place is still awaiting my decorative touch. But if I had to pick a room, it would be the den. I heart HomeGoods. We didn't have one where I used to live, and I have become a frequent shopper at the one near me.
dmj53(at)hotmail(dot)com
Question for you--am I supposed to comment 4 times that I blogged about your giveaway? That's kind of the way it reads.
I love the makeover especially the new mirror. I want one in my bathroom. We have one of those fabulous industrial style mirrors with the metal brackets. Yuck.
I know its been said, but Goo Gone works wonders. I love that stuff.
But for an attempt with something in your cupboard, I would try getting it off with Mayo. Mayo takes crayon off of lots of things, so it might take stickers off a mirror.
I think the makeover is lovely. You have really good design sense and a classical yet luxurious taste. We are making over our bathroom right now too!
You can use alcohol or fingernail polish remover to get the gunk off your mirror :)
We are making over our bathroom so that is the room I would target for the prize!
I use a razor blade and that works for me.
I believe that I would re-do my kids bathroom...still have fishy border and shower curtain...and they are in college and high school!!
LOVE the jewelry/trash can--I too have one in my 1/2 bath...great minds!!
I use nail polish remover for sticky stuff.
Enjoy!!!
I know what you mean, my hubby is one too. If it wasen't so dangerous I would do it my self. The bath looks wonderful!!Kathy
Love the room...I really like the lamp, i just did this too and now I am on the lookout for the perfect lamp.
Goo B Gone is the greatest...I have a spray bottle that came with a little scraper it is awesome!
If I won I would work on my master bedroom or bathroom...we are upgrading to a king size bed (arrives next week...so excited!) and wanting to redo our room with this new bed!
Great Job!
You did a nice job of upgrading your bathroom with very little money.
You can get the gunk off your mirror and other things with Goo Gone. I buy it in Rite Aid and it works very well.
I have to work on my guest bedroom. First, it will need a new carpet and then I'll work my way up from there.
What a wonderful job! Love the way this bathroom came out. Thanks so much.
To get the sticky stuff off your mirror, get some Goo Gone. This stuff really works great.
The room that I'd most like to do over is our main bathroom. Thanks again.
I love your taste, it's soooo similar to mine. I think your redo is classy. Neutral and elegant.

I want to make over our daughter's room. She is moving out in January, and I just don't know what to do with her room!
To get the gunky stuff off, use vegetable oil, and use patience!
Love it all! I like the look of the new mirror as well as the pretty bling on the counter top. :)
I think my favorite thing is that soap dispenser! va va voom! Love it!!
May sound strange but I always put a soaking wet paper towel over any residue, leave it overnight and then is comes right off!
I always use a bit of nail polish remover and it gets those pesky stickers right off
I have just picked out paint for my master bedroom, the walls are brown but Im switching to gray & it is in need of some major decor!

Oh my, your makeover is beautiful! I love what you did :)
I recommend Goo Gone, too... though I often get results with just hot water and a thumbnail ;-)
Goo gone works great for removing stickers and residue!
I'd love to replace the lamps on our bedside tables. The ones we have now are out of date and a bit "wonky"--they tip over easily when we paw at them in the dark.
I'd like to makeover my bathroom, I want yours now! :)

I like the makeover, but i think your camera needs one too, all your pics are sorta dark.
i think you did a fabulous job, it is warm and inviting, i usually find that vinegar works for removing the gunk from a label on glass minsthins at optonline dot net
Good job!.....the mirror is a wonderful addition!
Great job! I wish I was as good as you are redecorating.
abfantom at yahoo dot com
I like your makeover.
Goo Gone will get the gunky, sticky stuff off of your mirror.
I'd like to make over my bedroom.
Oh Bella, congrats on your gift certificate!!! And what a great redo! PLEASE enter me in your giveaway for the $100 GC! I'd be estatic!!! Take care, Artie
Ok, so I don't know if you can find it, but it's called GOOF off, (I think) but definitely GOOF, and it will take that sticker residue off with no problem at all! :) Ok, so this is a second entry right? LOL!
Ok, so IF I were to win the gift card, I'd work on redoing my dining room! I've been so disappointed by it lately, and I just need to get it together. I saw some great curtains at our local HomeGoods/TJMaxx and I know they'd look great in there ... so I'm crossing my fingers about this giveaway!
I love your makeover! I like that candle a lot. Thanks for the chance!

thanks again!
Try some nail polish remover. I've used it on things like that and it's worked fine.
I'm currently decorating my bedroom which has been sadly neglected so I would definitely put the $100 towards accessories for that room.
It's great! I like how you use light and little something like a framed picture, a wicker cover for tissue to make the room cozy and classy!
Try using hair dryer on the gunky sticker! In theory, it dries the glue to make it easier to remove.
I'd like to make over my bedroom! A new rug or a new dresser even a new comforter can make a new look!

I can't believe what a difference that mirror alone makes! The bathroom looks amazing, great job on the redo!
To get the gunky stuff, try undo or goo gone. It works great for adhesive in scrapbooking, it should work for that as well without damage.
I'd love to redo one of our bedrooms, either mind or one of my daughters. I'd probably go with my tweens room though, could use some updates!
I love that you mixed colors together! We are finishing our basement and all of our hardware upstairs is brushed nickle, but I really want oil rubbed bronze downstairs. Looking at your makeover makes me realize I can mix and it will look great!! I love HomeGoods....great job!

OMG, Do you live near the panhandale of Florida? I sure could use your beautiful decorating taste! We just moved now renting a house and it is driving me crazy with all of the white walls. I have a big beautiful master bathroom and just blah. I love your attention to details the colors are warm and sophisticated! I really love everything and were you able to do all of that with $100.00? All I can say it is just elegant :)

I would love to redo my master bathroom.
tamben7996(at)aol(dot)com
What a wonderful make over !! It looks much nicer!!! I love the candle holder!
To get the gunky stuff off the mirror I use Windex and a paper towel with some elbow grease.
We are redoing our master bathroom at the moment because of a leak. I would love to redo my master bedroom!!!
I like the way you used the colors and blended them into nice earthy tones... the new mirror is nice and I love the sparkly look of the candleholder. Also, the toilet brush and container are very classy!
micaela6955 at msn dot com
I have used Goo Gone in the past, but another thing I keep on hand is Sticky Stuff Remover from the Fuller Brush Co. it works great!

I would love to make over my bedroom!
Looks very good. I really like the Joy. Thanks for the contest.
repeat after me: Goo Gone at Dollar Tree. (didn't somebody else say that?)
I have gotten stickers off with plain hot water. ALso magic eraser or rubbing alcohol.
LOVE that makeover! I would love to do the same thing!
oooh, if I won, I think I would re do the master bath or the powder room. they both need it bad!
Wow. Gorgeous! I love the little touches everywhere, like the Joy ornament on the soap bottle! Precious!
Goo Gone works alright I guess, but I say scrape it with a razor and that should get it.
I'd love to make over my master bedroom, because it's got the basics but not the things that make it special.
Love your makeover. Little changes made such a big difference -- especially love the mirror
Try peanut butter on the mirror. It does wonders removing sticky residue.
I'd love to makeover my living room!
Hello! What a wonderful transformation! A little sure does go a long way! I would love to redo or I should say do powder room.
Thanks,
Michelle
Great makeover on a budget. It looks awesome! Crazy how a few accessories can change everything!
I have antiseptic wipes in my medicine cabinet that I use to clean the thermometer before and after everyone uses it. They are my favorite household item and will get the sticker gunk off ASAP
lovely and classy - really like it
tvollowitz at aol dot com
love it all, Bella! the mirror is excellent and so is the new toilet brush ;-)
the sticky stuff takes nail power after wetting it or a razor blade. There is some special stuff that auto parts places have that works too.
tvollowitz at aol dot com
I'd use Goo Gone. also just warm soapy water would do it. Even Windex & paper towels has worked for me in the past!
would love tomake over our half bath downstairs
tvollowitz at aol dot com
Nice job on the half bath.
I love Home Goods store.
Chris
treehouse.queen18(atyahoodotcom)
beautiful, it looks like you walked right into a home display for a fashion magazine
To get rid of the gunky sticker stuff, try Goo Gone. It works great.
I love it, the mirror and trash can are so pretty. Great job!
To get rid of the sticker use alcohol or goof off
The living room needs an update I can't afford new furniture but maybe new pictures and accessories to make it warmer
I really like the new look! The mirror especially looks great and the single candle looks so much more simple and elegant than the two striped ones. I have never used browns, gold, coppers in my decorating, but I love the way all of your colors come together.
I love your makeover! The new mirror and soap dispenser are my favorite pieces.
For the gunk, try Goo Be Gone or Windex.
Our master bedroom so needs a makeover. It's very boring, no decorations or pictures, just bare walls.
To remove the glue residue left from the sticker, soak a cotton ball or Q-tip in rubbing alcohol and apply it to the area. Leave it for 5 minutes then rub with a dry cloth. You can also try WD-40--apply a little and let it stay on for a few minutes before wiping off. Since that may leave a bit of an oily residue, you will need to clean the spot with glass cleaner.
We only have one bathroom in our house, and I'd like makeover that room.
I love the makeover. Isn't it amazing how a few items can completely change the look of a room? Love it!
I'm going with everyone else here. Goo Gone is a master at removing sticky stuff. I've also used straight vinegar, it doesn't compare to Goo Gone but with a little elbow grease, it can work too!
I would redo my kids bathroom. I found tons of cute stuff at Home Goods!
Tweet: http://twitter.com/coriwestphal/statuses/5230828534
great make over. You have actually given me ideas to perhaps do our powder room which has been the same since we moved in 11 yrs ago.
The room I need to re-do is what is considered the office/guest room. It looks very generic at the moment.
To get rid of the sticky stuff use either nail polish remover or goo-Gone. Both work wonders.
I love the colors used and the great simple look and neat...thanks for the great giveaway
Some of your ideas are food for thought for my bathroom remodel planning
Oh I LOVE your after Bella!! Funny how such small changes can make such a big difference!!
FYI - the smell stick are called Reed diffusers! - be sure to flip them over once a week!
~TidyMom
Goo Gone for the Mirror, or even rubbing alcohol will probably do it!
~TidyMom
Since I'm still working on little touches in my new office space, it's the room I'd still like to "make over"
I have nothing on the walls or window!

I tweeted here http://twitter.com/Tidymom/statuses/5233495632
Wow it looks great! I love the Indian vibe you got goin on..I love the lamp and the wastebasket best..
I think the mirror makes all the difference! It really looks like one of those expensive, $200 mirrors. I really like it! :)
krtrumpet [at] aol [dot] com
As for what room I'd like to makeover... I really need a bedroom makeover! My furniture is antique, and I would love a new comforter and some curtains. I need a grown-up matching set! ;)
krtrumpet [at] aol [dot] com
I like it, very attractive.
I think you did a nice job at choosing items that match the bathroom's original design/style. I really like the towel and mirror.
You could trying getting a glue eraser. It's something we art students get since we're all messy. It may be geared towards glue pick up, but it still may work on sticker residue.
If I won, I'd actually give the prize to my friend. She and her family just moved into a new apartment, and they could use a little decor.
Great job! I use Goo Gone, works great on everything....Pat H

My living room needs a homegoods makeover! I love that store!
Absolutely love the makeover... its amazing what $100 can do. New mirror definitely adds a touch of class and newness! Thanks so much for the chance to do the same for my half bath!
Goo Gone! I had to remove the parking decal on my brand new car and replace it with this year's sticker... I sat there with Goo Gone and a blade and chiseled right off!

It would definitely be my half bath, as well... my husband drilled baseball-themed tins into the wall. Needless to say, I don't really know how to coordinate the rest of the bathroom around Ted Williams and Babe Ruth but with $100 I could sure try!

Definitely Goo Be Gone for the sticker - you can get it at almost every arts and crafts store and it does work real well. Always wondered myself why they do that.
The bathroom makeover looks fantastic - love the mirror and the candle sticks - amazing and definitely a "two thumbs up."
The mirror makes a huge difference! Love it!

I like your makeover -- I'm a lover of rich dark wood, so it's right up my alley!
You should definitely go get a bottle of goo gone. I've got one, I wish I could lend it to you.
I too would redo my bathroom -- it's the ugliest room in my apartment... I always think that I wish I had money so that I could fix it!
love the makeover !! very well done--love the candles the best ~~~mine need makeover badly
yes the goo gone here is a fave--they have it in oil and gel base
Love the makeover. The new mirror looks great and the tasseled towel is way fun!!

Great make over and finger nail polish remover will get off the sticker and the residue.
Gunky stuff off mirror is easy! Apply PEANUT BUTTER. Leave over night. Wipe off the next morning. It removes it just like gum from hair. Used it several times!
