Pink Bathroom - Pretty in Pink or Demo?

My nieces just bought their first home (Hooray!) It's really a nice house...but...you guessed it, it has a PINK BATHROOM. The dreaded pink bathroom. Love it or hate it? I guess if I had to choose a color it would not be pink, but if it were pink, I'd work with what I had.

Here it is:

The tile on the floor is brown and white. I suggested that they do a chocolate and brown look..with silver as the accent color. I also suggested a chandelier. If you've got it, flaunt it, right? ;)

So, what would you do? They are anxiously awaiting any ideas!!!

Thanks so much!!!

I was also thinking of chocolate brown. I think the brown would really look good with it.

I definitely agree if they emphasize the chocolate brown that it could be beautiful and take the focus from the pinkness of the pink stuff.

I found this great link as an example:

Good luck to them!

I don't see any point in demo-ing if it's in good condition. It's vintage! I like it and would really play up the pink and brown.

Hey Nena & Suzi...how about a big mirror on that wall in this picture? With a silver frame. You can find them at Lowe's or Home Depot or Costco for about $100 or so. Not too bad. But make sure you hang it up properly...or 7 years of the pink bathroom evil eye thing ;)

Hi Bella, I really like your idea of mixing it up with the chocolate & silver... The bathroom is actually very pretty and has great possibilities... Have fun with it!

I like the idea of using chocolate with the pink. That's a beautiful combination. And there are lots worse colors for baths. Our last house had ceramic tile all over the main bathroom. White background with harvest gold dots all over each tile. Like someone had flung paint at the wall. Awful!

Make sure to send us "after" pics!

i think you are right you dont need to demo it ,if you paint the cabinets the chocolate color it will look very modern and posh i think

Oh man, I wouldn't demo anything either! It could be really cool and retro/vintage.

I would suggest a big framed mirror or a big mirror with a frame hanging over it.

Paint the walls a color and it will be beautiful.

Oh definitely keep the pink! It's vintage and will come round and round again in time. Love the idea of emphasizing the brown. Just think of pink as a neutral. Green would go with it and even some shades of orange go with certain shades of pink. Just think outside of the box.

Bella,

I had two different pink bathrooms many years ago. I just embraced them. One I added black to and the other chocolate brown. Until they can change it, they can make it pretty as it can be.

My suggestions would include knocking out the centers of each cabinet door and replacing with thin plywood (so that they look more modern) and painting them white, perhaps with brown handles.
I would probably get rid of the pink sink and toilet - opting for a standing sink and faucet as well as a low-flow toilet in white. This turns the pink into just an accent color.
Then I would emphasize the brown. I would purchase brown and pink towels, layering the brown bath towel with the pink hand towel and the brown washcloth, and sew pink/white accents on them. I would purchase silver or brown mirrors, and shiny silver or chrome accent pieces (toothbrush holder, cup, towel bars etc.) I would find a particularily cute picture of a 50's model - say Marilyn Monroe to hand as decor, to remind people that this is not necessarily all modern. I would hand lace curtains in the windows. I would put pink rugs on the floor (to keep the room from getting too dark)...
OK..I admit it. I jumped off the deep end.

I agree with those who said to save it because it's a popular vintage look that is definitely hot again. I say play it up and have fun with it!
