Today, I have another questions to ask of you all. I want to hang curtains on my arches, the way that Kimba, from A Soft Place to Land did on her porch:

Gorgeous, isn't it?
So, my question is...do I hang the curtains on the inside or outside of the arches? I mean, I am assuming the inside (porch side)...but I am wondering if they would look better on the outside of the arches instead? But then, they would get dirtier faster, too. Hmmmm....what do you think?

I'd go on the inside. but that's just me!
have a great weekend!
are you going to curve the rods? I used plumbers pipe to make curved rods... that would look neat!
I would certainly go on the inside.
They need to be hung on the inside (porch side) of the arches. They will look really nice.

inside, for sure.
Definitely inside...and make sure you buy outdoor fabric. I made some slipcovers one time out of cream denim...they looked great until they began to mildew!!! Save yourself some trouble and expense and learn from my mistake!!
inside..outside will look funny on the house itself I would think. Maybe cute on the inside..but funny on the outside.
That other picture of the porch with curtains..it looks like they are on a not so visible side of the house...are your arches in the front of the house or the back? I would think if that is the front of your house..that I would not want curtains up at all. Backyard would be fine though...IMHO
Inside, definitely. And I second the outdoor fabric, or even, shower curtains.
I would go with the inside. I think they will look fabulous!
Yeah, hang them on the inside. I think it'll look great! I love how Kimba did that for her porch. My pillows always end up with mildew growing on them after a couple of summers (and they're supposedly "outdoor" ones), so you might want to get the least expensive fabric you can find in case you have to replace them. Actually, you could probably wash or bleach them as needed--something I can't do with my pillows. Can't wait to see how your exterior makeover turns out! :-)
I say on the inside! Jen
Inside! Oh, and I saw Carla's genius comment about shower curtains. That sounds like a great idea to me, except they might not be long enough.
Good Morning Bella,
I say on the inside, don't bother trying to curve them either, just hang above your arch so it's covered when they are drawn across. Don't forget to check out WM for their canvas drop cloths too, very inexpensive and make great curtains. I'm using them for my own porch this year!
Morning!!!!
I would say on the inside... I know it was hard to tell on my design I sent you yesterday! I love the drop cloth idea also! In the past, I have also used sheers... they are inexpensive as well...
If anyone doesnt have a front porch... But does have a deck, I just posted pics of a curtain idea that I saw at the Chicago Flower and Garden show a few years back... I always thought it looked awesome....
Well Spring is almost on its way here in Wisconsin, at least its Pouring rain and not snow!!! LOL

I'm not that creative, but I would do it from the inside. Have fun with it and I'm sure it will turn out just wonderful.
You have an award for your blog...:)

Probably the inside...just because I think I would get tired of trying to keep the fabric clean.

Yes, definitely inside..., in the room so to speak.
I am with the majority and say hang them on the inside.
NO curtains. I don't like that look at all. I love your brick arches. they are beautiful just the way they are. If you must to block out sun or to have a bit of privacy how about those Bambo blinds? But that's just me. DO post a pic when u get them up
Love those! On the inside is easier on the fabric! These would be a fun and different feature on our Pillow (and fabric) Parade tomorrow!

I go on the inside too. That's where you put them on your house windows. I saw a lot of that in the south - curtains on the porch - that is. Good idea.
Hi, you don't know me, but I know your blog pretty well--thought it was time to introduce myself :D. I sent you an email under Alice Gardner--I modified a picture of yours a little. Let me know what you think.
I agree with those who say don't do it. Not on the front of your home anyway. If you must, you'll definitely want to fork over the big bucks for Sunbrella or comparable fabric. You'll also want to use UV protected thread as untreated thread will rot with sun exposure.
Inside---treat them just like if they were windows. That way you don't take away from the beautiful architecture of your home.
Hi Bella~
I am really not an expert on outdoor curtains, but I think you're right about hanging them from the inside. :)
Also, I just have to comment on your brick dilemma because...I really think you go for it! I will be honest, it is definitely more difficult than painting wood, but so the work! Our house had really ugly, dirty cream colored brick on the outside that looks SO much better painted white! I painted the red brick around our fireplace white too. It was dirty and not very attractive~ but it's amazing what a little cleaning, primer and paint can do! :) I can't wait to see what you do! Take care! :)
Curtains will look fantastic on the inside of your arches! I would just hang straight rods above the arches on the inside. That way the curtains will just fall straight down and you'll still see the arches from the outside.
I want to see pictures when you're done. It's going to be great!

Tayrose said,
Hang from the inside with outdoor fabric, and if there is a pattern, the pattern would need to face to the outside. I also would suggest changing the color of the shutters on the 2nd story to a more earthy color.
Definitely the inside.
