Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree...

Here's my first Christmas decor post of the year, better late than never;) Where did November go???

Last year, I had had enough of our "Charlie Brown" Christmas tree, so we donated it after the holidays. I mean, really, you could SEE the GREEN POLE through the branches...you could even see the wall in back of the tree through the branches...it was one sorry, sorry tree, lol.

So, this year we went shopping for a pre-lit tree and YIKES!!! The prices were OUTRAGEOUS!!! Everything decent was well over $200. I couldn't believe it.

So...we compromised and got a nice, full tree, but without the attached lights. And then we just bought lights for it separately. Our sons, Zach & Robert, got to pick out the lights and they went with multi-colored (GASP!) I was having an anxiety attack just thinking about it, but I took a deep breath and put them in the cart ;) I'd had white lights for so many years, it was a little bit of an adjustment getting used to all of the COLORS!

But you know what...I actually like it now and 'went' with it...meaning, I spruced it up with some multi-colored candy canes and some other fun things like...

Beanie Babies!

Um, ok, I didn't do this, Zach did...but ok, a toy car works, too...

We even got a few new ornaments...from The Dollar Tree, of course...the gold one is Zach's favorite...I'm liking the apple green ornaments I got from there myself...

Zach made this Gingerbread Man ornament in preschool, so many moons ago...

I got this cute kitty ornament from a co-worker in 1993!

Does anyone remember this Reindeer? It came from McDonalds...in the 80's!!! (Hey, isn't that a name of a song???)

My little man, Robert is on a birdhouse painting SPREE! They are all proudly displayed on our tree, I think they are very happy here...

This is the Grinch's dog, dressed up as a Reindeer. It was a Black Friday freebie from either Hudson's or Marshall Fields, in the 90's...so cute!

Santa came from a Craft show...and the gold sled was a craft project, again, many Christmas Eves ago...

Ice Skatin' Santa...some sort of promotional ornament from Mobil Gas Stations several years back...my husband, Velo actually bought all of them for me....and I didn't even ask him to...trust me, I was shocked, he doesn't do things like that!!! Thanks, Velo!!! xoxo

I guess this is a Nutcracker? It's missing a leg, lol. I got him very cheap at a garage sale a few years ago. He actually had both legs then, but my boys are hard on things...

A barn star Santa ornament from The Dollar Tree...I bought a Snowman one, too, but do you think I can find it??? lol The Peace sign is also from The Dollar Tree...love those cute, cheap signs!

Ho! Ho! Ho!

I am hoping to show you all pictures of my kitchen next week. Hope everyone has a nice weekend!!!
ttfn,
Bella

Decorated with "memories"...what more can you ask for...

It has that special touch - love shows thru in each of the ornaments.

I do love white lights but there is just something so nostalgic about colored lights. My kids both choose colored lights for their trees and after all most of do all of it for our kiddos.
It's beautiful!

Very pretty, Bella! I think it's just fine to have your kids pick out things, since they are enjoyingn it all too. You'll have time later on for a more grown-up tree.

I am glad you let them have their colored lights. I remember when I was a kid, the Christmas tree was so-o-o- special to me.And your boys will always remember that tree with their colored lights.

HA! You are so like me sista, with the colored lights. I'd sworn them out away but this year found I wanted them up for our son. So I'm slowly pulling them out...some in the kitchen, some in the loft, etc. I love all the ornaments, especially the beanie baby. :)

I LOVE your tree. It is like ours with stuff from all the past years. Hand made things and pretties Lexi made in school. Just all kinds of stuff! We go back and forth from white lights to colored lights. We have white lights right now on the tree but on our mantle in the greenery are colored lights. I LOVE it all!!! I want to get a slim pre-lit tree and hope we can find one on a good clearance this year when everything goes on sale after Christmas.

Love your decorations. We bought a pre lit tree a few years ago, but we bought it at the after x-mas sales because they are soooo expensive!!!

Hiya, Bella! I love your tree! I used to do all colored lights... then I went amber and white...then I went all white. I think colored looks pretty! Reminds me of my childhood. Anyhooo...pre-lit trees are over-rated. I have one and I could have strung those lights way better than "they" did!

Love all your ornaments! I still have those reindeer that Burger King gave away/sold back in the 90's... Rodney, I think his name was?

I love it! How fun. The Christmas I was pregnant (and very tired and sick) with Lily, I let my son and husband decorate our tree for me (a rare act of relinquishing decorating control). They went all out with colored lights and ornaments that they made themselves and had a great time. I still have fond memories of that year. :-)

Your tree is very pretty and I like the colored lights too, tell the boys, good job. And that's what is so wondeful about a Christmas tree, it is anything you want it to be.

Hugs,
Chris

I'll have you know... I went with multi color lights outside this year since my 5 year old requested them. It's so fun! Love color. Yeah, and my whole tree is full of old ornaments. Some I made as a kid! A tree with meaning is way more fun than a fancy smancy one:-)

Merry Christmas!

The fake pre-lit trees get cheaper the closer we get to the holidays. Just make sure your car/truck is big enough for the box. I was a dummy and tried to fit a 6' boxed tree in my (then) jetta and had to call DH from work to come help me b/c I could get it in the car with the car seat (stuck).

Stop by and grab your award :)

I think trees like yours are WAY more beautiful than the stupid, perfect "Martha Stewart" type trees you see in magazines. As others have said, yours is full of memories. We have McD's ornaments too - I actually WORKED at McD's for awhile, I think the ones I have are the mice from Cinderella. I have nothing that can beat your gas station ornament! :-)

I had wanted a prelit tree, too, until all of my friends' prelit trees' lights started going OUT and none of them figured out how to replace the one section that was out, so had to buy lights to replace the ones wired onto the tree! I think you got the better deal! : )
