Well, she's even cuter now, maybe even tres chic!
First I used a liquid sanding product on her. Then, spray painted on a primer. Next, I hand painted her black, 2 coats. Then for fun, I painted the top areas with chalkboard paint. Then she sat around for awhile waiting for a new seat...
After much inner debate, I went with a light green, sagey sort of color with some swirls and floral designs in it, I really like it! I really thought I was going to make this chair 'casual', but my fanciness just got the best of me and well, I just made her all pretty and stuff...hope that's OK.
My seat is so w i d e, like my new owner's ;)
Just for fun, some Chalkboard Paint, love that stuff!
Oh, the D? It stands for Decorating Dork, haha. I think I read that on Nester's blog once and it is stuck in my head now ;)
So, are the next 5 days going to be the longest days of our lives or what?

PS: I added this post to the Sanctuary Arts Makeover Open House. To see what everyone is making over, head over there for more fabulous makeovers!

PPS: Make sure to enter to win a beautiful lamp from CSN Lighting! Good Luck!

Hi Bella...why yes, yes I do remember the gossip bench and why wouldn't I? I am the "gossiper extraordinaire" in the blogopera "Desperate Housewives Of Blogge'ville... I dearly love what you've done with this bench and especially that it has a WIDE seat so I can feel comfortable when I come to visit! ;-) Bo
Love the way it turned out! I really really really want a gossip bench, but they seem hard to come by in my area. You did a great job. I love the unexpected with the chalkboard paint. How fun!!

That is an amazing transformation. Love the whole vignette.
I would love to find a bench like that for my foyer.
Oh, and you asked about the pictures on our blog. They were huge paintings. Huge! I did think they would have made great chalkboards if someone had a space that large. They were kinda freaky though. : )
Oh what memories I have of a gossip bench in my house as a kid growing up! I STILL HAVE IT! It is needing a makeover so bad. It will have to be completely taken apart, reglued, refinished, new upholstery etc.
Many projects in front of it though. I'll have to do all of the wood at one time to get them all done I suppose.
Great idea using the chalk board paint! I love how it turned out!

It's me again! I just wanted to let you know that the city picture on my blog is Grand Rapids. A lot of people don't realize what a large city it is. It's simply beautiful, and it offers a spectacular night life! You'll have to come over sometime. Stay the day or stay all night in some beautiful hotels!

Great job, Bella! What a fab makeover. I never would've thought to use the blackboard paint like that.
I echo your sentiment--Nov 4th (actually, the 5th!)--can't get here soon enough for me. This feels like the longest political campaign in history, doesn't it?
Have a wonderful Sunday! :-)

I love that! My grandmother, Bella, had something very similar. It's great when you can rejuvenate a piece of furniture and make it part of an eclectic collection.
WOW! Go Bella....Really love the phone bench/chair. The area you put it in is great. When I was a teen, we had a phone bench/chair. What memories that brings back. LOVE the material you used on the cushion too!

What a beautiful piece of furniture. I have never heard of liquid sander before. Maybe it's something we should look into. We've been sanding and varnishing and sanding and... for days now. Hope we find results as beautiful as yours. I love how you have refurbished this old piece.
You are so talented, I am sure you will come up with many great ideas for decorating your home... though the duct tape effort was funny!!!
